One Cover Song a Day Come October

I’ve been thinking… what if I do one cover song a day and post it on AcidRadius’ Instagram?

I mean, I haven’t really had any gig for the past several months and the last time I was onstage was on my own to honor a fallen friend in a tribute dedicated to him.

I can’t say it was a good performance.

Rusty as hell.

One cover song per day recorded on video and then posted to the AcidRadius Instagram account….

Every single day until it becomes as natural as brushing my teeth.

I just have to get started.

I just have to start picking up my guitar more.

And I have but it’s not really what one would call a focused practice session. Usually I just pick up the guitar to noodle around a bit with no clear plan.

I no longer have those planned practices where I would improve one area of my playing and dedicated hours upon hours to get it right.

In fact, I no longer pick up the guitar to enjoy it simply because I barely have enough time to do it.

But I also know that these are excuses that I need to get rid of.

Plus I think the universe is trying to tell me something after receiving a free travel guitar from Leego, winning an ASUS ZenScreen, and buying a Modofo camera during the 8.8 sale on shopee.

The Leego headless guitar is ideal for this because of everything that makes a headless travel guitar ideal for daily practice.

I’ll just plug it straight into the Joyo Jam Buddy II via a short cable, runs silent through headphones or direct into BandLab for recording.

The whole setup should be pretty easy with no friction between the impulse to play and actually playing.

I’m choosing Instagram this time because my musical identity remains as that of a band member.

Who knows… if this picks up, then the other guys can also benefit from me getting more gigs in the future.

Plus, if I start publishing publicly, it’ll hopefully kickstart something in me that will get more motivated to pick up the guitar more.

At the very least, it’ll be something I can look back years from now and say hey, I did that 😊

Ground Rules for Myself

  • One cover song per day — any genre, any length, any difficulty level
  • Filmed on video — phone camera and/or modofo action cam, no elaborate setup required
  • Posted to @acidradius on Instagram the same day it was recorded no edits needed?
  • No redos
  • It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Fingers that don’t move get slow.

Slow fingers get slower.

And at some point slow becomes stopped, which is the thing I’m trying not to let happen.

This isn’t about being or looking good on camera.

It’s about keeping the connection between me and the instrument alive on a daily basis, rediscover my love for playing.

I can treat this as therapy.

One cover a day is a good form of therapy…

Will I miss a day?

Probably.

Will I post something that sounds rough because I only had ten minutes?

Definitely.

Will there be days where the Leego sounds better than I expected and days where my fingers just won’t cooperate?

Yes to both.

None of that is the point.

The point is that I kept going.

That tomorrow there’s another video coming.

I better get started with this project soon.

Hopefully you’ll follow me on Instagram at @AcidRadius
