Donner Hush X Pro Review

A few months ago, I did a review of the Donner Hush X travel guitar.

And just when I thought the world of portable guitars had already peaked—Donner drops the Hush X Pro, and suddenly I’m questioning every assumption I’ve ever had about what a compact instrument can do.

As someone who loves small rigs, silent practice, songwriting gadgets, and anything that lets me play anywhere without waking up the entire house, this thing immediately caught my eye.

And after diving into the specs, it’s clear: the Hush X Pro is not just a “travel guitar.” It’s a fully loaded smart guitar rig shrunk down into half the size of a traditional electric, without the compromises you’d expect.

Ultra-Portable, Ultra-Playable

The Hush X Pro weighs only 5.5 lbs and is literally half the size of a traditional electric guitar. It stays stable thanks to its quick-release frame system, meaning it still feels like a real instrument on your lap or strap.

• Slim C-shape neck (very smooth)
• 22 jumbo stainless steel frets

This isn’t just a travel guitar thrown together with compromises. The neck-through construction, stainless steel frets, and ergonomic shaping tell me Donner wanted this to play like a proper full-sized instrument.

And it does.

Seven Tone Simulations, One Tiny Body

Next feature: 7 tone simulations. Donner calls this Tone Sim, and it’s basically their way of giving you a handful of different guitars without actually buying different guitars.

You get:

• 4 electric guitar tones, sampled from custom shop instruments
• 3 acoustic guitar tones, also custom-model sourced

All of this lives inside the guitar as part of the DXP (Donner X Processor) system.

The goal?

Give players as much tonal flexibility as possible without needing pedals, processors, or amps.

This is wild.

A portable guitar with convincing acoustic simulations?

A travel instrument that can morph between genres?

This is the kind of thing that makes practice exciting again.

The fact that Donner was able to cram all this into something headless, lightweight, and powered by USB-C is impressive.

Real Amp Modeling: 19 Amps & 12 Cabs

Thanks to the in-house Donner H2 chip, the Hush X Pro delivers:

• Real-time control via OLED one-knob interface
• IR import support

This is where Donner flexes. The H2 chip handles more advanced algorithms at higher quality than the original Hush line. And yes, you can import your own IRs if you’re picky about your cab tones (which I am—because why not?).

Combine this with the Tone Sim system, and the Hush X Pro becomes something like a pocket-sized Helix guitar… except it is the guitar.

A Full Effects Chain Built Inside

If tone sims and amp modeling wasn’t enough, Donner goes all-in with what they call the Typical Effects Chain:

And this isn’t a gimmicky effects toy. It’s a genuine built-in effects processor capable of handling real practice and performance situations. You can switch presets with one touch, which makes the Hush X Pro feel like a mini pedalboard welded into the guitar.

On top of that, the guitar comes equipped with Custom Alnico V pickups—a single-coil in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge—giving you classic and modern rock/pop tones even before the modeling kicks in.

It’s like Donner set out to eliminate excuses.
