if You Don’t Have the Sonicake Pocket Master, Yet.
If you missed buying the Sonicake Pocket Master when it first came out, don’t worry. The M-Vave Pocket Amp is here and it has the same spirit, fits in the same pocket, and does quite a bit more.
I’ve written about the Sonicake Pocket Master a few times on this site now… for songwriting, gigging and home studio use.
It is one of my favorite little pieces of gear because of what it represented: a serious practice and recording machine that’s small enough to clip to your strap.
It changed how I thought about practicing.
The idea that you could have amp modeling, effects, headphone output, and recording capability all in your pocket without spending serious money… that was genuinely exciting when it came out.
The M-Vave Pocket AMP is that same idea.
Same DNA.
Same philosophy.
More features. And if you’re someone who looked at the Sonicake and thought “I’ll get to it eventually” and then didn’t… well.
Consider this your second chance, except the second chance comes with more amp models, more presets, more connectivity, and better Bluetooth?
The M-Vave Pocket AMP

The M-Vave Pocket Amp is an ultra-compact amp modeling and multi-effects processor for guitar and bass priced locally at roughly ₱2,399 to ₱2,895 depending on where you find it.
It measures 93×71.5×40mm and weighs 120 grams which means it is genuinely small… smaller than most things in your gig bag pocket right now.
It clips onto a guitar strap or belt loop and runs for approximately 7 hours on its built-in rechargeable battery via USB-C charging.
It has 80 editable presets. 40 factory, 40 user slots for your own configurations. 20 amp simulations (15 for guitar, 5 for bass). 20 cab simulations.
Up to 7 simultaneous effects including modulation, delay, reverb, compression, and boost. 3rd party WAV format IR (Impulse Response) loading for when the built-in cabs aren’t enough for you.
… USB OTG for direct mobile or PC recording.
… Bluetooth for wireless audio playback and tone editing via the companion app on Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS.
… 1/4 inch instrument input and output, 1/8 inch headphone out for silent practice, USB-C port. That’s the whole spec sheet and it is a good spec sheet for something this small at this price.

How It Compares to the Sonicake Pocket Master
The Sonicake Pocket Master was the one I kept coming back to for songwriting sessions. Compact, plug in the headphones, play quietly at any hour without waking anyone up, and the tones were usable enough that I could sketch out ideas and actually hear what I was working with.
It did its job when I needed it to.
But the M-Vave Pocket AMP is clearly the evolution of that idea.
Same core concept… same pocket-sized format, same headphone-out-for-silent-practice logic, same USB-C power… but the feature count is significantly expanded.
Here’s the side by side.
| Feature | M-Vave Pocket AMP | Sonicake Pocket Master |
| Amp Models | 20 (15 guitar + 5 bass) M-Vave | Multiple guitar models |
| Cab Simulations | 20 built-in + 3rd party IR M-Vave | Built-in cab sims |
| Presets | 80 (40 factory + 40 user) M-Vave | 100 with 50 Factory presets |
| Effects Modules | Up to 7 simultaneous M-Vave | Up to 9 including Modulation, delay, reverb |
| Headphone Output | 1/8″ (3.5mm) Same | Shares it with the 1/4″ Output |
| Instrument Input | 1/4″ (6.35mm) Same | 1/4″ (6.35mm) |
| Power | USB-C rechargeable Same | USB-C rechargeable |
| Battery Life | ~7 hours Similar | 4 to 5 hours usually around that length of time |
| Bluetooth | Yes | Yes |
| App Control | Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android | Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android |
| USB Recording | USB OTG (mobile + PC) M-Vave | Basic USB OTG recording |
| Bass Support | Yes (5 bass amp models) M-Vave | More guitar-focused based on my experience |
| Weight | 120g | 194g |
| Local Price | ₱2,399 – ₱2,895 | ₱2,700 – ₱3,500 |
The similarities are the things that matter most for daily use… both clip onto your strap, both run on USB-C, both give you around 5 hours of battery (longer for the M-Vave), both have the 1/4 inch input but only the M-Vave has the dedicated 3.5mm headphone that makes it easier to practice silently at any hour or plug in headphones when monitoring your recording.
If the Sonicake worked for you, the M-Vave will feel immediately familiar in all the ways that count.
The differences are where the M-Vave has clearly done its homework.
The Sonicake Pocket Master was where I started with this kind of device and I still have a soft spot for it.
It was simple, it worked, and it introduced the idea that you don’t need a full amp setup to get a usable tone at home.
But the M-Vave has definitely built upon Sonicake’s success and made a slightly better device.
Lekato Mini Pocket ME-05 Anyone?
There’s another contender out there, the Lekato Mini Pocket ME-05 is a simpler, more stripped-back entry point… fewer amp models, fewer effects, lower price, less to figure out.
Hmmm… must be why no one’s really noticed it…

Who The M-Vave Pocket Amp is for
If you’re a guitarist or bassist in Davao… or anywhere in the Philippines honestly… and you want to practice silently at home, sketch song ideas without setting up a full rig, record directly into your phone or laptop, and have something that fits in your pocket when you’re out.
The M-Vave Pocket AMP does all of that for under ₱3,000.
The Bluetooth app integration means you can sit on your couch with the guitar and scroll through amp models on your phone rather than squinting at a tiny unit in your hands.
The 3rd party IR support means when you eventually get deep enough into tone chasing that the built-in cabs aren’t enough anymore, this device grows with you instead of hitting a ceiling. The bass amp models mean bassists aren’t an afterthought the way they often are with budget multi-effects gear.
It’s a lot of functionality for the size and the price.
And if the Sonicake Pocket Master was the device that made you think “I should get one of those eventually”… well. Now you’ve got a better option and a reason to stop waiting.
