Hard times bring out the best in people.

And oftentimes these are the people you least expect to help others when no one else can or will care enough to do so.

We have an upcoming gig for a cause called Ayuda Urgente this October 16, 2025 (Thursday) at Suazo for those hit hardest by the recent earthquakes plaguing our region.

Davao is known for helping others out when no one else will. Now it’s time to help ourselves because we do not expect or oblige others to come to our aid. This is the one thing that is beautiful about the city’s spirit.

It’s unbreakable.

No matter what disasters befall us, we manage to take it all in stride and even have enough to offer others our assistance.

Musika Wabad as one of the many music outfits in the city wishes to raise awareness that people do need help.

And we should help.

Because a city or a region is only as strong as its weakest or most vulnerable members of society.

This gig for a cause hopes to entertain you while you provide aid to others through ticket sales or donations made at the venue or event. We’ll take anything. Easy to open canned goods, bottles of mineral water, sacks of rice, clothing, blankets, anything that can help.

Because if you or I were in that position, wouldn’t you appreciate some help too?

The gig will feature local acts like Zoko Milk, Jude, Tatot, Project Satellite, Spooky Serna, and StayHihgdrated.

And your host will be Tag Blog from the band Talib Band.

We’ll see you there!

And hope you have a great time!

PS. f you see this guy at the gig, give him a kiss for making this gig possible.

Musika Wabad Back in 2019

When I first bought the domain name MusikaWabad, I never really thought about what would come out of it.

All I knew was that I wanted a music-related website that centered around Davao’s exciting music scene.

I had already been living in Davao for 6-7 years and been in two bands, Oh Look Maling O and AcidRadio which turned into AcidRadius because of some copyright and trademark issue.

Looking back, my first articles for the website were about local bands that I found interesting.

I covered everyone from SoundTank to Tamad si Juan and Chud Festejo. I wanted to be all-inclusive. I didn’t want to miss out.

But those early days were a bit directionless.

It took an earthquake to point me in the right direction.

I’m talking about the earthquake event that happened in October 2019 that almost leveled Cotabato.

In 2019, I had no interest in organizing an event. Everyone was urging me to organize one but I knew I no longer had the patience or youthful energy to get people together to perform.

All I wanted was just to enjoy being a member of a band and just play songs.

And that’s what I kinda had with AcidRadius. We got invited to gigs and we played each one. One of the most memorable one was the Oh Beach Please by Urge Cotabato which was their 13th Anniversary.

It was a great gig that we shared with DIeGlocke, Triamera, Spooky Serna, Amana and a host of other great bands from Cotabato and other places. It was held on the beach (obviously) and we had a great time.

It was also a nice way to bond with the guys. We were just about a few years old as a band and the roadtrip gave us that opportunity to spend some time together. Plus with Die Glocke, Spooky Serna and Amana along for the ride, oh great times!

We had a blast seeing the beauty of Cotabato. How colorful the houses were and the friendly people. Just nice. Super nice.

We had a few stops along the way and also going back were we took pictures and videos and I promised myself that I would go back there one day to have full immersion because it was such a beautiful and culturally rich place.

That’s why I was so devastated when a few days after we had come home, the news hit me that the place was rocked by a massive earthquake and that lots of places were in xomplete disarray.

Thatsparked the idea that eventually ended up as the Isa ka Bundakan Para sa Mga Naig-an event.

Usa Ka Bundakan Para sa Mga Naig-an

The earthquake had everyone scrambling to help out the vistims of the earthquake.

Everyone was making a gig for a cause here and a gig for a cause there.

And I was just thinking, why doesn’t anyone come up with a big gig that organizes all of the places to play for the same cause?

I broached that idea to Dat-dat and somehow that got broadcasted to other key people in the music scene who showed interest in my small idea.

And then the meetings started.

I had to attend the meetings.

I didn’t know I was going to be part of an ambitious event that involved a lot of people. Thankfully they were people who had more influence in the local scene. State of Mind Productions, Pitel Aclon, Dat-dat, Zero82 Lokal, Giovanni Gaite of SOundtank and Gio’s Crib, TopBudz, Tipsylogan, oh man, I can’t remember all of the places but they all helped out.

We were featured on the news.

And we managed to get a lot of donations.

TUGON

Music and Lyrics: Wardy Puyod

Performed by: Various Artists

Sabay sabay tayo

Sabay sabay tayo

Tatawirin ito

Luha, pawis at dugo ang inaalay ko

Para sa’yo
