How would you best define Project Satellite’s music?
You can’t.
It’s dark & moody. The music is heavy and yet the lyrics, light. Like beautiful poems intertwined with the crashing of thunder & heavy things. It is definitely metal & yet you see Chokie’s manic dancing onstage. Rhys Vargas is arguably one of the best frontmen in the local scene, captivating with a vocal range unmatched by his peers. The drummer, Jan Jan Benedicto looks out of place, far too youthful to be in this company but then you can’t deny his skills behind the drumkit. And last but not the least, Ton Ton Ton who is responsible for that ground shaking bass sound and looks like he should be onscreen & not onstage in near-empty bars. This is the band you paid to watch. This is Project Satellite.
Their music is chaotic & yet driven by a heavy groove. Syncopactic. Metallic. Frenetic. Loud. Soft. Sexy. Ugly. It’s a duality unlike any you’ve seen in the Davao Music scene.

The first time I saw Project Satellite was in Zero82 Lokal. We weren’t playing that time. I just dropped by to check out the local band scene and I wasn’t disappointed in the least bit.
What I saw was pure genius onstage. I waited until they finished their set and made my way to their table to ask where their next gig would be.
I eventually became friends with the band and even ended up doing an interview with them for Hugyaw.
