Who is Vipera?
I was saddened when the band AnnaMaria decided to part ways with certain members of the band.
I just thought “What a big waste”
They could’ve made it if they’d managed to set aside their differences and just go on playing. Who says you really have to be friends to be in a band, anyway?
But I guess it just didn’t really work out and the fissure created by internal friction was too much for everyone. So… off they went to different paths in life.
A few weeks later, at a gathering with other musicians for a discussion on how to make it in the band scene, I chanced upon Grace.
Along with Joey Espera (Spooky Serna), we interviewed Grace but she kept quiet about what happened with her former band. Instead, she told us to wait for Vipera.
It was worth the wait.
Here’s their story: (Taken from their Facebook page… I just thought it was perfect enough, so why mess with it?)
The Birth of the Viper
It’s all Cheng’s fault.
She gathered Grace, Meghan and Farrah together for an impromptu metal band just to catch the opportunity to audition at a prestigious talent search in the country.
The former members of Anna Maria had called it quits due to creative differences and irrevocable damage to the relationships within the band.
Cheng also sought Angelikus (ex-Rebellatrix bassist) who was on self-imposed hiatus to take care of her kids.
Jane was the last member in completing the group.
There was rage. There was betrayal. And there were hurt feelings experienced by members of the band from their old groups. A quick search on Google revealed what would ultimately become their name: Vipera PH
To the girls, it had a nice ring to it.
Having already proven they could rock with the best of them, Vipera PH decided to take their time, hone their craft and come back stronger, louder, faster, bigger than their previous bands.
Watch em tear it apart on August 10 at Gioscrib for their first ever gig back to back with Soundtank and Warlak of Manila.
Here comes Vipera PH! Boys… start packing up.
