The MinPOP Grand Media Launch on November 9, 2019
This was something I was looking forward to as I had lots of questions. The local media apparently had the same in mind.
MinPop has been very active, touring all over Mindanao, looking for talent where no other outfit dared go. Established artists Chud Festejo and Eamarie Gilayo spearheaded the activities and were able to garner around 200 + submissions. This had to be pared down to 70, down to 30 down to 20, down to 15 and finally the top 10.
Here are the Top 10 Finalists
Another highlight of the event was the local performers showcasing their talents and songs. It was a night filled with beautiful music.
The question and answer portion began after the Top 10 finalists were announced. There were teary acceptance speeches and presentations of the organizers behind the event.
MinPop promised more events and a 3 day festival in 2020.
The artists in the Top 10 will perform in Davao City. They will also have exposure over the airwaves not just in Davao City but also to the rest of the regions in Mindanao.
This Group Has A Heart
Some would think it would be impossible for two worlds to come together. Two worlds that seem so different and yet share one common thing: music.
The MinPop artists went out of their way to collaborate with the local underground bands for the “Usa Ka Bundakan Sa Mga Naig-an” event. They managed to collect enough money to buy mosquito nets, mats, and other supplies.
I wonder if there are more collaborations in store in the future.
And, yes, pop music is very much alive here in Davao City too. Just check out MinPop and wait for their events this 2020.
