Lost Tribe is an amazing band. You don’t reach 11K followers on Facebook and more out of sheer luck. Lost Tribe is steadily increasing their fanbase to around 12K now from last I checked.
Any band with over 3 members is too much. I grew up to bands like Nirvana, The Presidents of the United States of America, Green Day and the Youth. The list goes on. What’s the one thing these guys have in common? They only have 3 guys in their band.
Adding a 4thmember adds another layer to the music that 3 guys just cannot produce unless there’s some trickery involved (like musicians playing behind the curtains).
5 and I’m thinking “There better be some good solos in their songs or else…”
Now 9 members… well… that should be considered a bit of an overkill. But then again, there’s Slipknot… wait a minute… they are considered a musical overkill.
Lost Tribe is another band I know that has 9 members playing different roles and instruments. And on the 3 occasions that I watched them play, I bore witness to why they have such a strong following.
This band has more vocalists than you can shake a stick at and for most people, they would agree that having as many frontmen as that is going to be confusing. that couldn’t have been further from the truth, each one contributes as a unique lead man hyping the crowd up, keeping the energy above normal and pushing it way beyond the stratosphere.
Lost Tribe is one of the many reggae bands in Davao I’ve come to really enjoy. Their performances give the genre a different twist, a melding of hip-hop, reggae, blues, world music… metal? You name it, there’s bound to be a hint of whatever type of music you’re into with this band.
So… is that what sets them apart? I know you probably have a few names in your head or at least another reggae band out there that has fused music genres together. The question is, are they as entertaining as Lost Tribe? Aside from being musically proficient, Lost Tribe has mastered the art of capturing the crowd’s attention. There’s always something going on, you can’t sit down at a Lost Tribe gig because people are rushing to the front to party with this band.
Again, that’s usually a normal thing with most reggae bands. Crank out some Bob Marley, drop some hints of just how much weed is so cool and scatter a few words like “Zion” “Jah” and Rastafari” and a good portion of the crowd is going to profess their love for reggae music.
Lost Tribe doesn’t pander to that type of crowd.
Lost Tribe does not rely on the old reliable reggae covers most reggae bands decidedly stick to. This band comes up with their own songs.
They play compositions and the crowd still moves along. This is how you weed out the wheat from the chaff. The band converts fakers into real reggae fans. It’s a no-nonsense approach to this type of music that has made them really stand out from the rest of the crowd.
This when those who fake learn the truth. This is when those who don’t like reggae appreciate the tunes. This is when the lost become part of the tribe.
Lost Tribe doesn’t play as often or maybe they just don’t play in bars as small as they used to and that’s understandable because how are you going to fit in their large audience in such tiny rooms? They’ve reached arena level and it’s truly deserved. I just wish I get to watch them more so I can rock out and just get lost in the music and good feelings & emotions.
